Why Research
I love solving problems, especially the problems on how adults learn and reason in real life. Some of the problems include:
- How can we be attached to a language? Would it be similar to the way we are attached to a loved one? If so, now? How does being attached to a language change a person's sense of self?
- What can we learn from different ways of demonstrating the truth of a mathematical statement?
My Ph.Ds. (language learning and mathematical explanations) come from thinking hard on these problems. Of course, coffee and tea helps!
Working on these problems equips me with the skills of applying and synthesizing methodologies from psychology, linguistics, mathematics, and philosophy.
Some of these methodologies include: adult attachment interview (AAI), self-report questionnaires, ethnography, text and discourse analyses, statistical modeling, and concept analysis.
Problems I'm fascinated with
I am fascinated with user experience problems because they push us to think deeper and smarter. Some problems include:
- Prospective Users: How can we reach out to our future users and win their trust?
- Employee Experience: How can we design simplified and enjoyable experiences for our employees?
- Talent Retention: How can we improve our strategies to retain talents?
- Accessibility: How can we design inclusive experiences for people with different needs?
I consider user experience problems as a part of complex and ongoing conversations with ourselves, users, stakeholders, and teams.
Process I've developed
To solve a problem, I create and follow a process: set milestones, navigate ambiguities, and apply methods that derive actionable insights. Here are the 4 milestones and the methods involved.
- Discover: Gather requirements and constraints, interview stakeholders and users, find allies, talk to experts, collect matrices
- Define: Write down a problem or opportunity statement with the collected information, discuss and rewrite the statement with teams
- Design: Workshop design possibilities, map out user journeys, test prototypes, observe and analyze users in action
- Reflect: Survey users, review search inquiries, analytics, and metrices, recruit participants periodically for future studies
UX Research Methods I use
I use multiple research methods to reveal a problem from different perspectives and support an important decision with valuable and reliable insights.
